Happy New Year!
Event Reminder
Just a quick reminder that I will be at the Alchemy Fair this Saturday the 10th at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, WA. Attendance for this event is free and there will be lots of vendors there! I hope to see you there.
Hekate of the Crossroads
This is the first time in a long time that I have felt like I am crossing over a threshold into a new year. I wonder if others feel the same way - like I am walking through a void. Every step feels solid, but I can’t see what’s ahead or beneath me or even behind me. The only way forward is to keep taking steps, and that is how I have been managing.
Hekate has recently come forward as a new guide for me and her synchronicities are quite abundant - no subtleties, I like it. I have worked a lot with Persephone in the past, and did some brief work with Demeter after becoming a mother, so it is no surprise that Hekate would place herself on my path. I have been reading the book Hekate Liminal Rites by Sorita D’Este and David Rankine and there is a passage which highlights Hekate’s role as psychopomp to Persephone on her annual journeys to and from the Underworld:
“In the telling of the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, Hekate embraced Persephone, and was described as being the ‘preceder’ and ‘follower’ of Persephone. This significantly referred to her position, not a role. Hekate preceded Persephone into the underworld and followed her out of the underworld. In this way she stood between her and any danger.”
When I read this passage I understood why Hekate had come to me now in a way I can no longer brush aside or shrug off. This year has been a significant transition for me, not only because I have become a mother, but because my way of being up to this point has reached a limit that cannot take me any further. If I resist and stubbornly choose to remain in this stage of my development, I will be depriving myself of important opportunities that can only become fully realized by the person I am being called to become. I have faced terrifying things and worked through what sometimes feel like bottomless pools of wounded experiences and traumas, but somehow this is one of the more challenging transformations that I have endeavored to embrace. I think it’s because I have come so far from where I used to be, that it is challenging to see how much farther I can go from here. Nevertheless, I have become aware of areas that need dedicated attention from me, and I am grateful to be offered Hekate’s
guidance and protection through this winter’s underworld journey.
Ancestral Healing
I recently had a wonderful experience receiving a reiki and akashic records healing from Jess of The Conscious Crow (please check her out! The akashic records reading was particularly mind-blowing.) I learned that my energy body is essentially a dead zone from the waist down - which I’ve been told in the past, and explains why I struggle so much to remain grounded. Still, I thought by now that would have improved with all the healing and releasing I’ve done over the years - no such luck. The reason being that a lot of the stagnant patterns in my energy body were inherited through my maternal line and don’t really belong to me - something I’ve also been told in the past but was difficult to take action on to resolve. This time around, I have much more command over my spiritual gifts and extrasensory perception.
I already work with my great grandmother’s spirit and the Morrígan in my ancestral practice, so they are who I am turning to for guidance on this matter. I have started out with a commitment to practice daily yoga nidra meditations to connect with my root chakra and strengthen it, which includes reflective journaling about my fears and experiences that have left my root region so severely blocked. I will adhere to this practice for 21 days before moving on to a similar regiment for my sacral region. The Morrígan has some ritual workings for me to perform as well. So far in my meditations I have received some profound insights into how to heal these blockages and clear my energy body of my ancestors’ trauma. Much of the content deserves its own dedicated blog post, which I may release later this month. For now I will share some wisdom I received from my grandmother that I think can help others who also struggle with releasing ancestral trauma from the body:
I have worked on trying to release this crap for ages, trust me. I have done lots of inner journeys, hypnotherapy, rituals, etc., but it seems to not budge much. Exasperated, I asked my grandmother, “Just how exactly am I supposed to let go of this?” She answered, “It isn’t yours to let go of.” It seems so obvious now, but that is why this has been such a sticky issue. I can’t let it go because it doesn’t belong to me, even though it is a part of me. This has made the steps to take very clear to me now: I must learn to discern when I am acting out or feeling an experience that does not reflect my true beliefs or my lived experiences, and then I must give the energy back to Spirit. Over and over and over, until it becomes natural to simply not identify with it. This is the same technique I learned from Bríd O’Donoghue’s The Psychic Code (a book that found me serendipitiously in Ireland). I feel and envision myself taking the energy off like a sweater and handing it over to Heaven, or Spirit, or Kali, or whoever you wish to call upon. I affirm that I will not be carrying anyone else’s trauma for them and then ask Spirit to do thy will be done with it.
I have been doing this for a couple weeks now and have felt a big difference. It is easier to access my vulnerability and true emotions that need my attention, and I find myself resisting the pull into negative behavior patterns easier than before. Go raibh maith agaibh, mo seanmháthair agus an Morrígan (Thank you, my grandmother and the Morrígan).
Make Your Self Home
This is a bit of a lengthier reflection, but I would still like to take a short moment to pull a tarot card to wrap things up:
Nine of Pentacles
Being at home with oneself is the way to abundance within the heart. When you act in service of your authentic nature, you naturally feel at home in your body and in the world. When you feel at home with yourself and in the world, your environment will naturally align to support you. The woman in the card is self-sufficient, not in the “girlbossing” way where one accomplishes things and tackles everything on their own. This woman is simply content with who she is and honors her essence through simply choosing to only act in alignment with who she is, and so she is self-sufficient. Start with your roots and nourish them. Carry the mantra “I am home” in your heart and body. Allow your feet to carry this intention into the earth. Allow the truth within you to guide your actions, rather than trying to change what is. If you are tired, take a nap. If you are craving inspiration, engage a hobby. Flow with your nature.
Thank you for reading. See you in 2 weeks!
